Thorne Nature Experience, formerly Thorne Ecological Institute, was founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1954 by Dr. Oakleigh Thorne II and is currently celebrating more than 60 years of connecting youth to nature through joyful, hands-on, place-based environmental education experiences that foster an emotional connection to nature.  During the past six decades, Thorne has connected more than 275,000 children, teens, and adults to nature and become a nationally recognized leader in the field of environmental education.  Today, Thorne's Summer Camp, School Programs, and NATURE FOR ALL Initiative reach more than 13,500 Boulder County and Front Range youth each year. We are continuing to expand and create enriching experiences for the children and your support is a necessary part of the growth.

Funds raised at Natural Night Out will support Nature Kids/Jovenes de la Naturaleza Lafayette (NKJN), the newest project of Thorne’s NATURE FOR ALL Initiative.  NKJN is a ground breaking, five-year, collective impact project designed to connect underserved Lafayette youth to nature and the outdoors.

NKJN aims to connect underserved youth in Lafayette to nature and outdoor activities through two strategies: (1) pre-k to high school, backyard to backcountry, and family integrated environmental education and outdoor recreation programming; and (2) capital construction projects designed to ensure all Lafayette youth live within a safe 10 minute walk of a nature space. NKJN programming and capital construction projects focus on serving youth who attend five of Boulder County’s lowest income and most culturally diverse schools.  Through NKJN, nature and outdoor recreation programs are offered across a continuum guiding youth from their first nature experiences in pre-school through to paid employment and academic credit opportunities in high school.

Join us in ensuring NATURE FOR ALL in our community!
